NOTIFICATION
Dated Aizawl, the 23rd March, 2018.
Whereas, the State Election Commission has decided that, at the time of poll during the General Elections to Chakma Autonomous District Council, electors for the purpose of establishing their identity before the Presiding Officer or the Polling Officer of a polling station, before casting their votes, should produce the Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) issued in terms of the provisions under the Representation of the People Act, 1951 when such electors of the constituency concerned or the polling station in question have been supplied with the Identity Cards, with photographs attached thereto;
AND
Whereas, it appears that all electors of the polling stations to which elections will be held and polls will be taken on 20th April, 2018, may not have been provided with the said Identity Cards;
AND
Whereas, the Presiding Officer or Polling Officer is required to be satisfied about the identity of the elector before allowing him to cast his or her vote. Accordingly, in the case of an elector not yet issued with EPIC or in the case of loss of EPIC, the list of documents which can be used as identity instead of EPIC, needs to be authorized by the Commission in the interest of the electors;
Now, therefore, the State Election Commission in exercise of the power conferred under sub-rule (5) of Rule 7 of The Chakma Autonomous District Council (Constitution, Conduct of Business, etc) Rules, 2002 as amended in 2012, the State Election Commission, Mizoram hereby directs that –
The electors, who have not been issued with EPIC shall produce, for the purpose of establishing their identify, any one of the following documents before the Presiding Officer or the Polling Officer authorized by him in this behalf:-
LIST OF DOCUMENTS
(i) Aadhar Card
(ii) Ration Card issued by the Government of Mizoram
(iii) Passbooks issued by Public Sector Banks/Post Office and Kisan Passbooks (accounts opened upto April, 2018).
