CIRCULAR

 

Dated Aizawl, the 12th April, 2017

 

In pursuance of the order passed by the Hon’ble Supreme Court on 19.1.2009 in Writ Petition (C) No.207 and in line with the Guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India on 17.2.2009, the result of opinion/exit polls carried out at any time, cannot be published, publicized or disseminated in any manner, whatsoever, by print, electronic or any media during the period of 48 hours ending with the hour fixed for conclusion of poll.

 

In the current General Election to Mara Autonomous District Council, 2017, poll is scheduled to be held on 4th May, 2017 and the hour fixed for conclusion of Poll is 5:00 p.m. Therefore, the period during which results of opinion/exit polls are not to be published/disseminated shall start from 5:00 p.m. of 2.5.2017 and shall end at 5:00 PM of 4.5.2017.

 

It is further explained that-

 

a)   ‘Electronic Media’ includes Radio and Television – both Government owned and Private, and covers satellite/DTH, Terrestrial and cable channels.

 

b)   ‘Dissemination’ includes publication in any newspaper, magazine or periodical, or display on electronic media, or circulation by means of any pamphlet, poster, placard, handbill and any other documents.
